on the boards: Mexican Pavilion


The competition entry for the Mexican Pavilion by AS/D architects generates a dialogue with the Mesoamerican geometry. The lower façade records and projects the daily activities in the space acting as an ephemeral & active mural whilst the upper areas features a selection on Mexican endemic vegetation.

on the boards: University of Craft Trades


The competition entry for the University of Craft Trades in St Clare, Guadeloupe by architects Pile et Face (Marc Jalet & Émile Romney). The spirit of the school is based on casual exchanges; this became central in the design with different users, programme, gardens and corridors interwoven under a large photovoltaic canopy.

Designed by Arkhefield architects the house located in Brisbane, Australia. From a simple material palette of concrete, timber, and steel the architects have produced a bold and dramatic elevation on entry that contrasts with the sedated, uncluttered interior spaces.

house of the week 89:Hill residence

 
The Hill residence is located on a wooded site adjacent to a natural lake in Texas. The house was created to work with nature and the architects - Japanese practice Studio Loop used a natural palette for the ceilings and floors to produce a home without losing that relationship with the outdoors.

VMX architects were awarded a controversial first prize in a competition commissioned by the municipality of Utrecht. The mixed programme that combines a central library, a cinema, arts centre and 120 apartments.

French architects LAN architecture have won a competition to design an office building for Sogeprom/Projectim in Lille, France. The project is part of the Euralille urban developement designed by OMA in 1994.

house of the week 88: Mill house


 
Located in south Sweden near the city of Malmö, the Mill house is annexed to a old farm house. Designed by Scandinavian practice Wingårdhs architects, the vacation house was built to celebrate the ritual of sauna and bathing.

house of the week 87: Ijburg House



A 285m² villa on the island of IJburg, Amsterdam designed by Gabriëls Webb architects. The clients, a family of four required a house that provided opportunities for living together but also independently. The house is spread over three levels that are demarcated on the façade with horizontal white bands and red cedar boards on the volume.

Interiors : Bar Basque


 
 
Bar Basque is the new restaurant located at the boutique hotel Eventi in Chelsea New York designed by Syd Mead, the visionary designer behind such iconic sci-fi films as Blade Runner, Aliens, and Tron along with Philip Koether architects. Designed for 40 guests with a view of the open kitchen, it also has a larger glass-enclosed lounge that doubles as an outdoor terrace with a retractable roof.

An infant & primary school in Rafelbunyol, Spain by BG Studio. The different uses of the school are maintained formally by the creation of independent blocks. The volumes are further broken up to produce a series of patios that provide light and ventilation to the interior spaces.

The Täby City Hall designed by Denmark based practice Special Edition Architecture (SEA). The civic functions are spread over 5 storeys and punctured by an open air atrium with a mezzanine containing the more public functions. The entire ground floor opens continuing the public passage through the building and connecting the urban spaces of the city.

House of the Week 86: Sagaponac House

Designed by Tsao & McKown Architects the 4,500 ft2 Sagaponac house was constructed for a hypothetical client in Wainscott, NY - a community planned by Richard Meier. The house is partially submerged with the main volume anchored to the site, the terrain in turn is carved to create spaces that are at both secluded, yet open to the forested surroundings.

A collective of young artists, designers and architects have transformed an abandoned petrol station in London into a temporary cinema. Fashioned and built primarily of donated and found materials, the cinema offers a potential life to the many derelict petrol stations around the UK.

Swissnex shanghai a Swiss outpost for science, technology and culture in China approached EXH design for the fit-out of their new offices. A large space was defined by a curved screen that creates two distinct areas. A public one for reception, workshops and exhibitions and behind the screen a friendly flexible working space for 7 to 14 workers.

The Federation of Caribbean Architectural Associations will be hosting the 5th Congress and conference on the 27th - 30th October 2010 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
